📘 Choosing Between a Section Book and a Ladder Book
Note: Depending on your organization’s setup, your publishing partner may allow you to choose between different project types when creating a new book. If your partner provides this option, you may be prompted to select either a Section Book or a Ladder Book. Each format supports a different workflow style and level of experience.
🧩 Section Book (Section Manager)
A Section Book organizes your yearbook by themed sections and is the recommended option for new advisers or smaller schools.

Best for:
- First-time users
- Small teams
- Simpler workflows
- Structured organization
How it works:
- Create sections such as First Grade, Staff, or Events
- Add pages within each section
- Assign team members to specific sections
- This format provides a guided, easy-to-manage layout structure that helps teams stay organized while designing.
📝 Platform Note:
Section Books use a legacy page management framework. While they remain fully supported and functional, some newer in-editor tools and advanced layout features available in Ladder projects may not be supported in Section Books due to structural differences. Most new feature development in Creator Studio is optimized for Ladder project formats.
🪜 Ladder Book (Page Ladder)
A Ladder Book uses a traditional yearbook workflow and is best suited for experienced advisers or large schools with established teams.

Best for:
- Experienced advisers
- Larger schools
- Advanced planning workflows
- Traditional ladder planning methods
How it works:
- Choose a total page count at project creation
- Pages appear in one continuous vertical list
- Pages can be individually named for organization
- Portrait groups can be created for sorting and structure
‼️ Important:
Pages in a ladder book must always be added in pairs. Single pages cannot be added.
💡 Which Should You Choose?
Choose Section Book if you want a simpler, guided workflow.
Choose Ladder Book if you prefer full control and a traditional planning structure.
