Captions allow you to add and customize text anywhere on your page. Use caption boxes for titles, names, descriptions, quotes, and other written content, with controls for formatting, positioning, spacing, color, and visual effects.

📝 Add a Caption Box

• Open the page you want to edit.
   
• Select Elements from the left navigation panel.
   

• Locate the Text element.
   

• Drag the Text element from the Elements panel onto the desired location on your page.
• Click inside the new caption box and enter your text.

  ✅Pro Tip:

  You can move the caption box at any time by selecting it and dragging it to another location on the page.

   

✏️ Edit the Text in a Caption Box

Click inside an existing caption box to add, remove, or replace its text.

The text formatting toolbar allows you to adjust options commonly found in a word processor, including:

• Font family
• Font size
• Text color
• Alignment
• Bold, italic, and underline formatting
• Additional text formatting options

You can also highlight a specific word or section of text and apply formatting without changing the rest of the caption.

📐 Resize a Caption Box

1. Click the caption box to select it.
2. Locate the resize handles around the outside of the box.
3. Click and drag a handle until the caption box reaches the desired size.

Resizing the caption box changes the available area for the text and may cause the text to wrap onto additional lines.

🔄 Rotate a Caption Box

1. Select the caption box.
2. Locate the rotation handle above the box.
3. Click and drag the handle to rotate the caption box.

For more precise rotation, use the rotation setting under Coordinates in the Edit Text panel.

🛠️ Use the Edit Text Panel

When a caption box is selected, the Edit Text panel appears on the left side of the editor.

Depending on the selected caption and available settings, you can use this panel to:

• Delete the caption box
• Lock or unlock the caption box
• Adjust its coordinates and dimensions
• Enable or disable a background color
• Change the background color and opacity
• Add and customize a shadow
• Add and customize a text stroke
• Adjust character and line spacing
• Stretch the text horizontally or vertically
• Change the caption box's layer order

📍 Adjust Position and Size with Coordinates

Use the Coordinates menu when you need to position or size a caption box more precisely.

1. Select the caption box.
2. Open the Coordinates dropdown menu in the Edit Text panel.
3. Enter or adjust the available values.

The coordinate controls may include:

• X coordinate: Controls the horizontal position of the caption box.
• Y coordinate: Controls the vertical position of the caption box.
• Width: Controls the width of the caption box.
• Rotation: Controls the angle of the caption box.

Coordinates are also useful when you want to place caption boxes in the same position across multiple pages.

🎨 Add a Background Color

You can place a color behind the text inside a caption box.

1. Select the caption box.
2. Open the Background Color menu in the Edit Text panel.
3. Select the checkbox to enable the background.
4. Choose a color from the available color palette.

You may also be able to use the eyedropper tool to select a color already used elsewhere on the page.

Use the opacity slider to control how transparent or solid the background appears.

To remove the background color, clear the background color checkbox.

🌑 Add a Shadow

A shadow can help separate text from the background and make the caption easier to read.

1. Select the caption box.
2. Select the Show Shadow checkbox in the Edit Text panel.
3. Adjust the available shadow settings.

Shadow controls may include:

• Color: Changes the shadow color.
• Opacity: Controls the shadow's transparency.
• Blur: Controls how soft or sharp the shadow appears.
• X-offset: Moves the shadow horizontally.
• Y-offset: Moves the shadow vertically.

You may also have the option to apply the shadow settings to:

• All captions on the current page
• All captions in the current section

🔲 Add a Text Stroke

A text stroke adds an outline around each character.

1. Select the caption box.
2. Select the Show Text Stroke checkbox in the Edit Text panel.
3. Choose a stroke color.
4. Adjust the stroke thickness.

Text strokes can improve readability when text appears over a detailed photograph or a background with several colors.

↔️ Adjust Text Spacing

Open the Text Spacing dropdown menu in the Edit Text panel to change how the text fits inside the caption box.

Available settings include:

Character Spacing

Character spacing, also called tracking, controls the amount of space between individual characters.

Increase the value to spread characters farther apart. Decrease it to move the characters closer together

The images above compare wide character spacing with the default setting of 0. 

Line Height

Line height, also called leading, controls the vertical space between lines of text.

This setting only affects caption boxes containing more than one line.

Stretch Width

Stretch Width changes the horizontal width of the text without changing the spacing between the individual characters.

Stretch Height

Stretch Height changes the vertical height of the text.

The images above compare vertically stretched with the default setting of 0. 

📚 Change the Layer Order

When a caption overlaps another element, use the layer controls to determine which object appears in front.

Available options include:

• Send to Back: Places the caption behind every other element.
• Send Backward: Moves the caption back by one layer.
• Bring Forward: Moves the caption forward by one layer.
• Bring to Front: Places the caption above every other element.

🔒 Lock or Delete a Caption Box

To prevent a caption box from being moved or edited accidentally, select the caption and use the Lock option in the Edit Text panel.

Unlock the caption when you need to make additional changes.

To permanently remove a caption box, select it and choose the Delete option.

Keep the following recommendations in mind when adding text to a page:

• Keep important text inside the page's safe area.
• Use fonts and colors that remain readable against the background.
• Avoid stretching text excessively.
• Use consistent font styles and spacing throughout related pages.
• Use coordinates when captions need to align across multiple pages.
• Lock completed captions to prevent accidental movement.
• Review the page at multiple zoom levels before completing your design.
